Eomentesa (dialect)

Eomentesa is one of two modern dialects of Braereth, spoken primarily by witches. (The other dialect is Tenibvreth.)

The phonology is similar to Spanish or Catalan, marked by vowel lowering and unpacking of the palatal series from Classical Braereth.

Spelling Reform

While Eomentesa is traditionally spelled as classical Braereth or Tenibvreth, a recent spelling reform is used by many speakers which renders it quite distinct. A few differences of notes:

• Palatal ⟨j⟩ is not used. It is elided entirely after obstruence, or changes to ⟨i⟩ after sonorants.
• ⟨bv⟩ is written as ⟨b⟩.
• ⟨ou⟩ is written as ⟨o⟩.
• ⟨cj⟩, ⟨tj⟩, and unvoiced ⟨tz⟩ are written as ⟨s⟩ when initial and ⟨ts⟩ otherwise.
• ⟨gj⟩, ⟨dj⟩, and voiced ⟨tz⟩ are written as ⟨z⟩ when initial and ⟨dz⟩ otherwise.
• ⟨ei⟩ is written as ⟨e⟩.
• Some instances of ⟨u⟩ are written as ⟨o⟩.
• Some instances of ⟨i⟩ are written as ⟨e⟩.
• ⟨qh⟩ is elided when initial.
• Final ⟨e⟩ is elided.
• Final ⟨nje⟩ is written as ⟨ng⟩.
• Final ⟨au⟩ and ⟨aou⟩ are written as ⟨ao⟩.
• ⟨eu⟩ is written as ⟨eo⟩.
• The stress-indicator ⟨x⟩ is written as a grave accent (e.g. ⟨à⟩).
