From Middle Valthungian twîfɴs, twîflaðþs, from Old Valthungian tvijhns, from Griutungi *twīhns, (Cf. Gothic 𐍄𐍅𐌴𐌹𐌷𐌽𐍃 (tweihns).), from Proto-Germanic *tweihnaz. Original **twīfnas conflated with other reproductive adjectives ending in -flaþs.
