Europic
Etymology
Root √swekr.
Affix (Suffix, nominal)
-swekru
- in-law, step-, spouse’s
- Most commonly expressed as a suffix: The modified familial term that precedes it must first be adjectivised (final -u changed to -a, e.g. vatrina-swekru ‘mother-in-law’) and followed by a hyphen; otherwise, the familial term must follow swekru as an adjective, e.g. swekru vatrina ‘maternal in-law’. In the case of children and grandchildren, a better translation would be ‘step-’, e.g. filina-swekru translates to ‘spouse’s daughter’, i.e. ‘step-daughter’ rather than ‘daughter-in-law’.
